Agriculture, Horticulture, Food and Beverage manufacturing – Agri-Food for short – is a favourite sector for Causeway Energies. Energy and Food are sibling founders of modern society. How energy prices or the effects of climate change impact agriculture are becoming more and more apparent.
Displacing fossil fuels from Agri-Food now not only helps with the fight against global heating, but can deliver cheaper and local sourced and hence secure energy. Causeway Energies solutions focused on geothermal energy harnessed by heat pumps are very efficient in heating and cooling processes in Agri-Food. Depending on the carbon intensity of the electricity used to drive the heat pump, geothermal heat pump systems are only 10 to 25% of a gas boiler equivalent.
We find in many if not most of our engagements with Agri-Food customers that heating and cooling capacities and temperatures are designed to the combustion temperatures of oil, gas and propane, not what is actually needed in the process.
When you contact Causeway Energies, we quickly ascertain if your industry and use case is suitable for our solutions. We do this via an initial consultation where we introduce our technology and how it could apply to your business.

We plan and manage the full implementation of your renewable energy solutions. From project management right, construction, all the way through to testing and deployment, we cover all aspect of your project.
Post deployment, Causeway Energies offer a number of solutions to manage and maintain your renewable energy solution depending on your need. Are aim to ensure peak efficiency for the lifetime of the installation.
HaaS is a version of Energy as a Service, a new way for consumers to procure and use energy in their facilities. Traditionally industrial and commercial consumers bought their own heat generation equipment, like a gas boiler, had it installed, and then maintained, fueled and operated it, paying all the gas and maintenance bills through the life of the boiler.
Renewable energy solutions, including clean heat, often have higher upfront capital costs, but much lower running costs. The higher upfront capital costs can be a sticking point for cash-focused businesses or those that want to ensure that the capital on their balance sheets is only linked to their core business. In contrast, the provision of such capital with competitive cost or premium, is a very attractive proposition to green finance funds.
The HaaS process works like this. Causeway starts with assessing the customers critical needs, including identifying demand reduction opportunities. We then move to a design of the energy solution, laying out through engineering the capital and running costs of the new system. These cost for the basis for an investment decision by green finance that then forms a pricing proposal to the customer in the Heat Purchase Agreement over the life of the project, which will likely be measured in decades.
In essence the customer will pay a regular tariff or subscription which covers the cost of capital, the running costs and a markup to Causeway and the green financier. The customer will therefore not only not have to stump up the capital costs, but will more than likely enjoy an energy expense similar to or better than the previous running cost of the fossil system.
A typical arrangement where Causeway Energies can install the system at the customer’s expense and leave them to operate it day-to-day, only with periodic checks on the surface equipment.
